Tony Prieto
Interim President

February 9, 1993: The 1st meeting was held at the Metro-Dade Police Department regarding the development of the Florida Gang Investigators Association.

Development committees were established pertaining to By-Laws, Recruitment, Incorporation, and Training Site Selection.

February 23, 1993: The 2nd development meeting was held at the Police Benevolent Building in Miami, Florida.

The First two versions of a proposed FGIA logo were submitted by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and Homestead Police Department.

March 10, 1993: The 3rd development meeting was held at the Police Benevolent Building in Miami, Florida.

The 1st FGIA Recruitment Letter was approved.

The Incorporation papers were approved for submission to the state.

April 8, 1993: The 4th development meeting was held.

The 1st Official FGIA Logo was approved.

April 30, 1993: Articles of Incorporation Package Completed

May 6, 1993: Articles of Incorporation filed in Florida.

May 15, 1993: The 4th development meeting was held at the Dade County PBA.

August 5, 1993: The 5th development meeting was held at the Dade County PBA.

August 9, 1993: The 6th development meeting was held at the Miami ATF Office.

November 4, 1993: Articles of Incorporation Letter of approval #N93000002069

December 8, 1993: The 7th development meeting was held at the Metro-Dade Juvenile Gang Bureau.


1994

January 6, 1994: The 8th development meeting was held at the Dade County PBA.

FGIA has 31 Regular Members.

January 19, 1994: The 9th development meeting was held at the Miami ATF Office.

The 1st Annual Conference Agenda approved.

February 9, 1994: The 10th development meeting was held at the Miami ATF Office.

April 13, 1994: 1st Annual FGIA Conference at the Orlando Twin Towers Hotel.

April 14, 1994: 1st General Membership Meeting held at the 1st Annual FGIA Conference where the first official election for the Board of Directors positions for 1994-1996 Term.

May 11, 1994: 1st Official FGIA Board of Directors meeting was held in Orlando.

FGIA has 97 Regular Members.

March: President Cory Godwin met with other Association Presidents met in New Orleans to organize the National Alliance of Gang Investigators’ Associations.

September: The 3rd version of the Official FGIA Logo was approved to Green and Orange.

1st Annual Anti-Gang Poster Contest was established

Largest FGIA Conference with 500+ attendees from 12 states and 4 countries


2006

January: 2005 FGIA Gang Investigator of the Year Kevin Kuschel chosen as 2005 Attorney General’s Law Enforcement Officer of the Year.
February: Announcement of the “A Gang Free Florida” initiative
March: Announcement of the new Members Only System on the website
