The Florida Gang Investigator’s Association was formed in 1993, by criminal justice professionals, to promote and facilitate the exchange of gang intelligence and information among those professionals actively involved in the investigation and prosecution of criminal street gangs, prison gangs, extremist groups, supremacist groups and their membership. The main goal of the Association is to effectively and positively impact and ultimately eliminate the effects of gang violence and gang related crimes perpetrated by gang members whose actions adversely affect and constitute a threat to the public.

The Association works in partnership with fellow gang investigators and law enforcement associations throughout the world to develop anti-gang strategies in the areas of gang prevention, gang intervention, gang enforcement, gang suppression, gang member rehabilitation, and finally gang member re-entry into mainstream society.

Through aggressive organizational development and “out-of-the-box” thinking, the FGIA has established departments and divisions within the association to specifically address each isolated area independently and develop strategic plans on how best to address those areas. These individual plans are then consolidated to establish a statewide strategic plan, which is prepared and proposed to the local and state leadership.

Gang Training Programs – Through our Training Department’s Professional Development Series the FGIA develops and implements successful training programs to better prepare those who combat gangs in effective gang enforcement, gang intervention and gang prevention techniques as well as those tasked with implementing programs in prevention and intervention with gang ideology and typology training.
Gang Prevention and Intervention Programs – Through our Program’s Department the FGIA will research, review, develop and/or assist to be developed programs that will successfully deter or remove them from their gang association or membership.
National and International Relations – Through the FGIA’s membership to the National Alliance of Gang Investigators’ Associations (NAGIA), the FGIA strives to further develop relationships and promote opportunities in which the Florida Gang Investigators Association can contribute to and benefit from active involvement with those in the national and international criminal justice community responsible for gang prevention, intervention and enforcement.

The FGIA is not only a founding and proud member of the National Alliance of Gang Investigators’ Associations (NAGIA). The FGIA President Rusty Keeble is also the current President of NAGIA.

The FGIA is always looking to develop new initiatives that will dramatically impact the rising gang threat in Florida. In 2006, the FGIA developed an initiative called “A Gang Free Florida.” We could tell right away that we had something and quickly coined this as the title of our overall anti-gang strategy and mission.
